FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball dynamic duo of sophomore guard Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) and junior forward Jason Reynolds (Winslow, Maine) were each named to the D3Hoops.com Region 1 All-Region Team, as announced by the organization on Monday.
With the honor, McLaughlin and Reynolds become just the second and third players in program history to receive All-Region recognition. They join Terion Moss '23, who was named to the D3Hoops.com All-Region Second Team following the 2022-23 season.
McLaughlin had the best single season in terms of scoring the basketball in program history. Across 26 games played this season, McLaughlin set the program's new single-season record for total points scored, amassing 670 points and eclipsing Cam Brown's previous record of 648 points set during the 1977-78 season. McLaughlin finished his sophomore campaign averaging 25.8 points per game while shooting an extremely efficient 46.7% from the floor, 41.0% from beyond the arc, and 79.4% from the free throw line.
The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Year helped lead the Beavers to an outstanding 20-5 regular season record, including a nearly perfect 17-1 mark in conference play and the top overall seed in the 2026 NAC Conference Tournament. McLaughlin was phenomenal in both NAC playoff games. He opened the playoffs by scoring a career-high 40 points in just 29 minutes while shooting 12-of-26 from the field, 4-of-10 from beyond the arc, and 12-of-13 from the free throw line as the Beavers toppled SUNY Cobleskill, 94-63.
McLaughlin scored 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the floor in the championship game to help lead the Beavers past UMPI and claim their first NAC Championship since 2010. He was named the NAC Tournament MVP after averaging 29.5 points per game across the two contests.
McLaughlin scored 20 or more points in 19 of the 26 games he played this season, including eight games of 30 or more points. During a stretch that began on January 10 against Maine Maritime and ran through the NAC Semifinals on February 22, McLaughlin averaged 30.4 points per game while shooting 54.5% from the field and 44.2% from three-point range.
McLaughlin also excelled in both of Farmington's NCAA Tournament games, scoring 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor to help Farmington defeat the 10th-ranked team in the country, Montclair State University. In the second round of the NCAA Tournament, McLaughlin poured in 31 points, shooting 10-of-20 from the floor and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, but the Beavers ultimately fell to Yeshiva to close out their storybook season.
McLaughlin also finished the season averaging 3.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
Reynolds had an incredible season for the Beavers, completely rewriting the program record book for rebounding and double-doubles. He recorded 26 double-doubles in 29 games played this season, finishing with remarkable averages of 17.3 points and 15.5 rebounds per game.
Reynolds finished the season with 449 total rebounds, shattering the previous program record of 369 rebounds set by Truman Libby during the 1965-66 season. His 449 rebounds place him in a class of his own in NCAA basketball, as he led all players, regardless of class, in total rebounds.
The NAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on nine occasions during the regular season, thanks in large part to his work on the defensive glass. He finished the season averaging 10.7 defensive rebounds per game.
Offensively, Reynolds was extremely consistent, doing much of his work around the hoop and from beyond the three-point line. He finished the season shooting 49.0% from the floor and 37.0% from beyond the arc, knocking down 70 triples to rank just behind McLaughlin for most three-pointers made on the team.
Reynolds recorded a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double against SUNY Cobleskill on November 21 that began a streak of 21 consecutive double-doubles, which lasted until February 22 when he fell one point shy against the same Fighting Tigers team in the NAC Semifinals.
Reynolds had a breakout performance early in the season, tallying 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor to go along with 18 rebounds in a blowout home victory over SUNY Delhi. That performance was one of eight 20-point, 15-rebound efforts during the season.
On the road against SUNY Cobleskill on January 17, Reynolds recorded his first 20-20 game, finishing with 21 points and a career-high 24 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes to help lead the Beavers to a conference victory.
Reynolds was nearly flawless in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-8 from distance, while dominating the boards with 21 rebounds in Farmington's 96-84 victory over Montclair.
