Women's soccer opens NAC play with win

POULTNEY, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington tallied a goal in the first half and a pair over the final 45 minutes to claim a 3-0 victory over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference women's soccer action this afternoon.

Farmington (3-2-1, 1-0) is scheduled to take on Castleton State College Sunday at 2 p.m. in Castleton, Vt.

Katie Cray (Richmond, Maine) scored the match's decisive goal just over three minutes in, converting a penalty kick. Noelle Moulton (York, Maine) notched her third of the season just after the halftime interval to push the advantage to 2-0 before Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine) rounded out the scoring in the 60th minute.

Goalkeeper Crystal Johnson (Cornville, Maine) recorded three saves to preserve the clean sheet for the visitors while Karen Davidson (Seymour, Conn.) stop nine shots for the Eagles.

The Beavers held a 21-5 advantage in shots and narrow 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
