Women's soccer blanked by Castleton

Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton State College women's soccer team won for the third straight game, defeating University of Main ate Farmington 3-0 this afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action at
Spartan Stadium.

The Beavers (3-3-1 overall, 1-1 NAC) are scheduled to host the University of Maine at Machias on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.

The Spartans received goals from three different players, and Ericka Davis (Cambridge, Vt.) made five saves to earn her second shutout of the season as Castleton (6-2, 2-0 NAC) stretched its current scoreless streak to 257 minutes and 11 seconds.

Sarah Ethier (Portsmouth, R.I.) broke a scoreless tie in the 31st minute of play, sending a left-footed shot just inside the right post. Ethier corralled a loose ball at the top of the box, and sent a low drive that Farmington goalie McKell Barnes (Durham, Maine) appeared to
lose through the crowd in front of the net.

Megan Blongy (Rutland, Vt.) made it 2-0 seven minutes later, scoring her sixth goal of the season off a Kelsey Lenney (Coxsackie, N.Y.) assist. Lenney sent a cross in from the right wing that Blongy quickly redirected just inside the nearside post.

Farmington (3-3-1, 1-1 NAC) senior Katie Cray (Richmond, Maine) had a pair of looks at the net in the first have, but Davis was able to make the save on both attempts from long range.

Hilary Cooke (Marlborough, Conn.) gave the Spartans some extra breathing room in the 74th minute, submitting her eighth marker of the season. Courtney Chadburn (North Clarendon, Vt.) sent a perfect cross in from the left flank that landed on Cooke's foot and the junior forward sniped it past the diving Barnes.

Barnes ended the contest with four saves as Castleton outshot the Beavers 18-10, and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
