Rivier pulls away from UMF in women's lacrosse

KENTS HILL -- Rivier College outscored University of Maine at Farmington 9-3 over the final 18:32 to take a 21-13 victory over the Beavers in non-conference women's lacrosse action today at Kents Hill School.

The Beavers (1-6) are scheduled to host Husson University Saturday at 1 p.m. in North Atlantic Conference East Division action. The Raiders (8-3) are slated to visit St. Joseph's (Conn.) College Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) powered Rivier with eight goals and an assist, while Jessica Amaral (East Providence, R.I.) pitched in with five goals and an assist to go along with six groundballs, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers. Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, N.H.) also helped the winning effort with three goals and an assist with Amanda Atwell (Raymond, N.H.) passing out four assists and Natalie Bonvie (Salem, N.H.) and Hannah Wyatt (Merrimack, N.H.) netting two goals apiece.

Caleigh Bertolaccini (Chelmsford, Mass.) made five saves in the victory.

Aimee St. Germain (Gorham, Maine) scored five goals for Farmington, while Miranda Levesque (Sanford, Maine) notched a hat trick and Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, Maine) supplied a goal and three assists. Molly Carbin (Scarborough, Maine) had a goal, an assist and a game-high eight groundballs in the loss with Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) also delivering a goal and an assist.

Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, Maine) stopped 20 shots for the Beavers, who were outshot 49-26 for the contest with a nearly-identical (25-13 in first half, 24-13 in second half) split.

With the game tied at 4-4, Amaral scored twice and Wickens once to steer the Raiders into the lead at 7-4 with 7:22 left in the first half on their way to a 9-6 halftime advantage.

Abbey Gilbert (Wilton, Maine) converted a free position shot and St. Germain scored off a Neptune helper to pull the Beavers to 12-10 with 19:17 remaining in the contest, but Wickens scored three times and Renaud twice to guide Rivier on a 9-3 stretch to close out the game and finish off the 21-13 win.
