Box Score FARMINGTON -- Bryanna Astor (Milltown, N.J.) scored with 51 seconds remaining in regulation to give Green Mountain College a 9-8 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference East Division women's lacrosse today at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (1-9, 0-5) are scheduled to close out the regular season at Thomas College Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Eagles (7-3, 5-1) are scheduled to visit St. Joseph's College (Conn.) Monday at 4 p.m.
Following a reset at midfield, Amanda Malkin (Highland Lakes, N.J.) sent the ball ahead to a streaking Astor. The sophomore went unabated to the goal to score to push the Eagles into a 9-8 lead with 51 seconds to play,
Johanna Douglas (Essex, Conn.), the top scorer in NAC east, netted five goals to lead Green Mountain, while Malkin added two goals and an assist and Astor also had a free-position tally to go along with her game-winner. Emily Brillon (Westminster, Mass.) also had a helper in the winner
Miranda Levesque (Sanford, Maine) and Aimee St. Germain (Gorham, Maine) each notched a hat trick for UMF with Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) supplying a goal and an assist, Hillary Morrison (Camden, Maine) a goal and Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, Maine) an assist. Emma Morrison gobbled up five ground balls as did GMC's Corey Gilbert (Henniker, N.H.).
Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, Maine) recorded 13 saves in the loss. UMF was outshot 31-23 by the Eagles.
Kelsy Allan (Jupiter, Fla.) snared 10 saves for Green Mountain.
The Eagles never trailed in the opening half, but were never comfortable as their advantage did not grow to more than two goals. Douglas and Astor opened the scoring for Green Mountain with a 2-0 lead over the first 13 minutes. UMF took 16:48 to crack the scoring column, but battled back with a Levesque unassisted goal with 3:04 remaining in the first tying the contest at 4-4 at the half.
After Malkin started the second-half scoring for a 5-4 edge for GMC, Levesque scored off an Emma Morrison feed and St. Germain notched an unassisted tally for the Beavers' first lead (6-5) with 19:12 left in the game. Douglas responded with a pair of scores followed by a St. Germain free-position finish to tie the game at 7-7 with 13:52 left.
The offenses went dormant for nearly 10 minutes before Malkin broke the silence with 3:59 remaining. Levesque tied the game at 8-8 with 2:31 to play, but Astor came through for the Eagles with her breakaway score for the 9-8 win.
