Second half surge leads women's soccer past Johnson 4-1

Box Score

JOHNSON, Vt. – Visiting University of Maine-Farmington used three second half goals to surge past host Johnson State College on Saturday for a 4-1 North Atlantic Conference women's soccer victory at Minaert Field.  The Badgers end their regular season at 6-8-2 overall, 2-5-2 in the NAC while UMF stands at 10-6-1, 6-2-1 NAC.

The win gives the Beavers their first 10-win season since 2007, when UMaine-Farmington went 14-5-2.

The Beavers received a pair of scores from junior Kayla Tuttle (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and sophomore Ava Amador (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) recorded a goal and an assist to help spark the win.  Senior Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine/George Stevens Academy) accounted for the fourth UMF goal and sophomore Sara Quimby (Albion, Maine/Lawrence) was credited with an assist in the match.

Johnson received their lone goal from junior Chelsea Hostetter with senior Ally Bataille dealing out the assist.

Amador put the Beavers on the board first in the 14th minute taking a feed from Quimby and beating JSC keeper Katja Langmaid to the right post.

Hostetter would tie the game with 6:28 remaining in the first half when she and Bataille broke loose for a two-on-one.  Hostetter found an open Bataille running up the left side, who then touched it right back to Hostetter who pushed the ball to her right foot and tucked a shot under the crossbar and off the hands of UMF keeper Beth Lebel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) making it 1-1.

There the score would stay until Tuttle scored the first of her two goals just over five minutes into the second half with an unassisted effort.

The Beavers all but sealed it with a goal in the 85th minute from Peake, a long dead ball strike off the hands of Langmaid, and then added insurance just 1:22 later with Tuttle's second goal of the contest.

Langmaid would make 10 stops for Johnson while Lebel notched a trio of saves in the victory for Farmington.

The match ends the regular-season for both teams.  With other league games today and on Tuesday both teams will await their first round playoff opponent and match site.  The NAC quarterfinal round will be played on Saturday, October 27.
