Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington ran off a string of 14 unanswered second-half goals to erase a two goal deficit at halftime as the Beavers defeated Green Mountain College 19-8 in each team's final North Atlantic Conference East regular season women's lacrosse game.
The Beavers (5-5 overall, 3-3 NAC East) await the NAC postseason. The loss finished the Eagles' record at 2-10 and saddled them with a 0-5 conference record.
Right off the bat, GMC's Johanna Douglas won the opening draw and maneuvered straight towards the opposing net for a goal just 21 seconds into the game. UMF's Marisa Hanning (Hebron, Maine) tied the game approximately two minutes later on an unassisted marker. The teams would continue the same back-and-forth scoring theme for the majority of the first half with the game being tied at four different times in the first 30 minutes of action.
Bryanna Astor's goal off a Corinne Colpitts feed at the 7:51 mark put the Eagles up by two for the first time in the game. After UMF's Miranda Levesque (Sanford, Maine) brought the visitors to within one at 6-5, Douglas potted her sixth goal of the half courtesy of an Astor assist to put the Eagles ahead 7-5 heading into halftime.
UMF came out of the break and dominated the Eagles' the rest of the way. Aside from Douglas' seventh and final goal just over a minute into the second frame, UMF strung together 14 straight goals to not only even the game, but also put it out of reach as the Beavers won by 11.
Eight players found their way onto the score sheet for UMF with six players scoring multiple goals. Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, Maine) scored a team-high five goals and grabbed a game-high eight ground balls. Levesque netted four goals and an assist, Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) notched three goals and an assist; while Hanning, Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine) and Molly Carbin (Scarborough, Maine) each tallied two goals on the afternoon. Morrison completed a great all-around effort by adding six groundballs and winning five draw controls.
Douglas led the Eagles' offense, but was also a stalwart in the draw circle and in the midfield. The sophomore won a game-high 10 draw controls and tied a team-high five ground balls. Astor added two assists to her goal in the first half. Ginny Anderson and Tori Mullins were the other Eagle players with five ground balls in the losing effort.
Hannah Goodenow stopped eight shots in net for UMF to secure the win and even her record at 5-5.
Anderson turned aside 12 shots in the loss with her record falling to 2-10.
