Faulkingham's late tally lifts Beavers past Lyndon State

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – Senior defender Logan Faulkingham's (St. Louis, Mo./Maplewood-Richmond) goal in the 84th minute, just the second of her career, lifted the University of Maine at Farmington to a 2-1 win over Lyndon State College, in North Atlantic Conference women's soccer on Saturday at Prescott Field.

UMaine-Farmington improved to 4-2-0 overall, 2-0-0 in the conference, with the win, while Lyndon State fell to 2-5-0, 0-2-0 in the NAC.

Faulkingham buried a long ball that was misplayed by the Lyndon State defense for her first goal since her freshman campaign, breaking open a game that had been tied since the 55th minute. Lyndon State's Emily Strese knotted the game at 1-1, scoring unassisted off a long run and a finishing shot that beat UMF keeper Beth Lebel (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston).

Senior forward Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine/George Stevens Academy) put the Beavers on the scoreboard early in the first half, heading a ball past Lyndon State keeper Dannika Dobrowksi off a corner kick by UMF's Ava Amador (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue).

"I think the most important thing we took away from today's game is that everyone on our team can step up when we need them to step up," said UMF head coach Molly Wilkie. "We faced a bit adversity with some injuries and some calls that might not have gone our way, but we came together as a team and it was a really great collective group effort."

UMaine-Farmington had a commanding 27-3 advantage in shots taken, with Dobrowski logging eight saves in the Lyndon State goal over the course of 90 minutes.  Lebel charted two saves in the UMF goal. Farmington also had a 10 corner kick opportunities and was called offside four times, while Lyndon took four corner kicks and was whistled offside twice.

UMaine-Farmington hosts Rivier University on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2:00 p.m. in a non-conference matchup. Lyndon State is idle until Wednesday, Sept. 26, when it faces Plymouth State in a road contest.
