Women's soccer posts shutout over NEC

Box Score

HENNIKER, N.H. -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team held New England College scoreless en route to a 1-0 North Atlantic Conference victory, Saturday afternoon at Don Melander Field.

The Beavers improved to 5-4-1 overall with the win, and remain undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a 4-0-0 mark.  The loss dropped the Pilgrims to 4-7-2 overall and evened their NAC record at 2-2-0.

UMaine-Farmington put on the offensive pressure early and recorded five shots on net in the opening 15 minutes of play, NEC keeper Tricia Sardagnola came up with five saves for the Pilgrims. Play would even out through the remainder of the opening half as neither team would muster a goal and the Beavers would outshoot the Pilgrims just 5-4.

Farmington broke the scoring drought just four minutes into the second half as Kayla Tuttle headed a ball past Sardagnola off Ava Amador's corner kick service.

The two teams battled through the remainder of the game with neither team able to capitalize on its opportunities. The Pilgrims' best scoring chance came late in the game as midfield Alyssa Krause fired a shot just wide of the net in the 85th minute.

Farmington finished the game with the 11-4 advantage in shots on net, while each team totaled three corner opportunities on the afternoon.

Splitting time in goal for Farmington was Beth Lebel, who finished with four saves in the first half, and Amy Jones, who did not have to make a save while playing in the second half.  Sardagnola stopped a total of 10 Beaver shots on the afternoon.

UMaine-Farmington returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 6, as it travels to take on conference foe Colby-Sawyer College.
