Thomas ekes out home win over UMF women's lax

WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas College (7-4, 2-1 NAC) was able to pick up a crucial conference victory against the University of Maine at Farmington (3-7, 1-3 NAC) in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's lacrosse showdown under the lights on Saturday night at Black Field.

Thomas started the contest with a comfortable 5-1 lead in the early stages of the first half, as Brittany Premo scored two of her four goals in the first seven minutes.

Farmington would put up five unanswered goals, three by Ayla Allen (Rumford, Maine/Mountain Valley), to take a 7-6 lead at the 13:47 mark. The lead would change twice more until Thomas would tally three in a row going into half, leading 10-9.

The final half saw the Beavers score three in a row in the beginning to take a 12-11 advantage, then Thomas would go on a three goal spree of their own after back and forth markers to secure the lead for good.

Premo had a team-high four goals and three assists on the night, while Ceara DiBiase contributed with three goals and one helper.

Allen finished with a game-leading six goals in the loss for UMF. Maddi Kadnar (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee), Miranda Levesque (Sanford, Maine/Sanford), and Molly Carbin (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) each had two goals for the Beavers, while freshman Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) tacked on a single marker.

Brittany Fox got the win in net, making six saves on the night, while her counterpart Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) was charged with the loss making 11 saves.

Thomas held a 42-21 advantage in shots, and 41-32 in groundballs.

The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to conference rival Husson for a 4:00 p.m. contest. UMaine-Farmington is idle until Saturday, April 20, when the Beavers host New England College in an NAC matchup.
