Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington senior Kaitlyn Bullen assisted on the game-winning goal and later scored an insurance marker to lead the Beavers to a 3-1 win over Endicott College, in a non-conference field hockey matchup Saturday at Prescott Field.
Sophomore Delainey Kein slapped home her first career goal for the game winner just 2:19 into the second half, and only 50 seconds after Endicott had knotted the game at 1-1. Bullen passed the ball right across the crease to Kein, who was waiting by the post to the right of Endicott goalie Lizetta Solarik.
Bullen put the Beavers up 3-1 with 11:01 showing on the second half clock, when she scored off Kashley Weymouth's pass and deflection off an Endicott defender.
UMaine-Farmington (1-1) took a 1-0 lead barely nine minutes into the contest, when senior defender Kate Storey's shot was deflected high into the air, and sailed in a high arc over Solarik into the upper part of the cage. Chelsea Morley was credited with an assist for the pass to Storey.
The Beavers held a 1-0 lead at the halfway point, but Endicott's Mackenzie Hurst tied the game only 1:29 into the second half. Stacie Teevens centered the ball to Hurst, who finished from right in front of the Farmington goal.
Endicott narrowly outshot UMaine-Farmington, 11-10, but the Beavers had a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Solarik finished the day with six saves, while Farmington goalie Curran Brierley had four saves. The Gulls enjoyed a commanding 15-8 advantage in penalty corners, but were unable to convert any of the attempts.
UMaine-Farmington returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with a non-conference tilt at Colby College. Endicott is at Westfield State for a non-conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
