Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Bowdoin College men's soccer scored nine goals on 21 shots on goal, and picked up an own goal from the University of Maine at Farmington, on its way to a 10-0 win over the Beavers on Sunday afternoon at Prescott Field.
Bowdoin (2-2-2) outshot UMaine-Farmington (1-4-1) by a count of 28 to 4, including a 25-1 margin in the first half alone. The Polar Bears also logged 15 corner kicks, 12 in the opening half, to the Beavers' none.
Hunter Miller opened the scoring early with a one-timer into the UMaine-Farmington goal in the 5th minute, off a cross from Zach Danssaert. Danssaert also assisted on the Polar Bears' second goal in the 19th minute, with Austin Downing finishing for the score.
What followed was a string of four Bowdoin goals over the next three-minutes-and-13-seconds, starting with a strike from Downing in the 25th minute.
A UMF own goal in the 26th minute put Bowdoin in front 4-0, and goals by the Polar Bears' Andrew Gray and Downing followed in quick succession to extend Bowdoin's lead to 6-0.
Miller (31st minute), Colton Hall (38th minute), Kiefer Solarte (40th minute), and Sam White (44th minute) capped the first half scoring for Bowdoin.
UMaine-Farmington got a handful of chances to break the shutout late in the contest, but Bowdoin keeper Kyle Gurtowski stopped attempts by Jordan Luks and Ibrahim Achekh.
All three UMaine-Farmington keepers saw action in the game, with starter Derek Reilly making 10 saves in the first half. Backup Ronie Morales came on at halftime and made one save over 34 minutes in the second half, while Chris Roberts finished out the game.
Bowdoin starter Will Wise played the first half and was not forced to make a save. Gurtowski entered the game at the start of the second half, and charted three saves over his 45 minutes played.
UMaine-Farmington will travel to the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, Oct. 2, while Bowdoin returns to NESCAC play on Saturday, Oct. 5, when it travels to Hartford to face Trinity College.
