Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. -- University of Maine at Farmington forward Garrett Clemmer finished with a game-high 23 points on impressive 8-of-10 shooting, lifting the visiting Beavers past New England College, 90-67, in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Beavers even their overall record at 6-6 and improve to 4-2 in NAC play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 5-8 on the season and 2-4 in the NAC.
Farmington jumped out to an early seven-point lead, 9-2, three minutes into the opening half. NEC battled its way back, trailing three at the 14-minute mark before UMaine-Farmington went on a run to take command of the game. The Beavers outscored the Pilgrims 27-11 over an eight-minute span to grab their largest lead of the game, 38-18, following a Uriah Forest-Bulley layup with 6:33 left in the half.
The Pilgrims clawed their way back by recording the final seven points of the half, including five points by Jonathan Byrnes, cutting the Beaver lead to just 47-36 heading into the intermission.
Farmington continued its hot shooting in the second half, shooting 60% from the field in the second half and 52% from the field for the game. In addition the Beavers held a 35-31 advantage in rebounds, and forced 22 Pilgrim turnovers en route to the eventual 90-67 victory.
In addition to Clemmer, the Beavers were led by Andrew Dickey with 19 points and Pet Sumner with 14 points to go along with six assists. Leading the way for Farmington on the boards was Nate Carson, who grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Four different Pilgrims posted double-figures, including Dezron Wilson who finished with a team-high 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. NEC's Jonathan Byrnes chipped in 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Andrew Haschytz led the way for the Pilgrims on the board with eight rebounds.
UMaine-Farmington returns home for its next contest when it hosts Husson University on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 5:30 p.m. at Dearborn Gym.
