Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. – Four starters scored in double figures to give the UMaine-Farmington men's basketball team (2-3, 2-0) its second conference win of the week with a, 71-63, win over Johnson State on Friday evening.
The Beaver captains, Uriah Forest-Bulley and Pet Sumner, led the charge for UMF with 17 points apiece. Sumner hit 5-of-13 from the field and drained three shots from beyond the arc. Forest-Bulley recorded his fourth game this season in scoring at least double digits.
The first half was very even with five lead changes and seven ties. Trailing 26-25 with 3:50, the captain duo teamed up to finish the half on a strong note. Sumner hit a three-pointer to give the Beavers a two-point lead, Forest-Bulley made one from the charity stripe, then Sumner drained another three and a jumper to give UMF a 34-27 lead at halftime.
The Badgers opened the second half on a quick, 11-6, run to cut the Beaver lead to four, but could not edge any closer. Ryan Camire and Sumner let their hot-hands extend the lead further, midway into the half. Camire buried a three and gave UMF a 43-36 advantage. After a pair of made free throws by Sumner, Camire sank back-to-back threes to give Farmington a 15-point lead.
Johnson continued to battle and trimmed the lead to nine with two and a half minutes to go, but had to foul to stop the clock. UMF cashed in from the line and made 9-of-12 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
Adding to his 17 points, Sumner grabbed three boards and recorded two steals. Forest-Bulley snatched five rebounds to compliment his big game and Nick Hilton finished only a rebound away from a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds.
UMaine-Farmington looks to grab its third conference win of the week at Lyndon State on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.
