Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas College scored four goals in the span of five minutes late in the first half to break a comparatively close game wide open and cruise to a 17-3 win over the University of Maine at Farmington, in a North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse matchup Tuesday afternoon at Smith Field.
UMaine-Farmington fell to 2-6 overall with the loss, 0-3 in the NAC, while Thomas improved to 5-4, 3-0 in conference.
Punctuating the day for Thomas was the nine-goal, one-assist performance of Jennifer Day, giving the junior 100 career goals. She is only the third player in Thomas history to achieve the mark.
Day completed a hat trick by scoring the Terriers' first three goals of the game, all in the first nine minutes of play. Her last goal of the day was her 100th, scored with 7:37 left on the clock off an assist by Erin Nelligan.
Miranda Tinsman scored three goals with one assist for Thomas, while Nelligan and Kaitlyn Cash each had two goals and an assist. Jillian Lambert added a single marker for the Terriers.
UMaine-Farmington's scoring came from freshman Alaina Shorey's first half goal at the 18:13 mark, cutting Thomas' lead to 4-1, and back-to-back second half goals from junior Maddi Kadnar and sophomore Ayla Allen that made the score 12-3 with 16:50 to play.
Thomas held a 37-20 advantage in shots and a 39-22 edge in ground balls, while UMaine-Farmington controlled the draw controls, 17-4.
Senior Hannah Goodenow recorded nine saves for the Beavers in the loss, while Thomas' Allie McCarthy charted eight saves in the win.
The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, April 9, when they travel to Gorham, Maine, to face the University of Southern Maine. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
