Box Score FARMINGTON, ME – The UMaine-Farmington women's soccer team earned their first win of the season Wednesday, September 10, 2014 by closely defeating Saint Joseph's (ME), 1-0.
The first half did not see any scoring; but saw plenty of opportunities. The teams combined for nine of the game's 19 shot total in the first half with Saint Joseph's winning the corner kick battle, 5-4.
Avalon Amador scored the game's only goal in the 58th minute after getting the dish from Katie Clark. The Beavers only recorded two shots on goal, but Amador's touch found the back of the net.
The Monks had their chance to tie the game as it came down to the wire. Danielle Daigle has a chance with 1:18 left on the clock, but her shot was wide. Desiree Parent had another opportunity with :53 remaining, but her shot sailed high. Hannah LeBlanc had one final boot with :15 seconds left, but her shot flew wide as well. The Monks accounted for eight of the game's final 10 shots.
Sam Hatch earns her first career victory as she improves to 1-1 on the season. Amelia Tooker gets the loss as she falls to 0-1 on the year.
UMaine-Farmington (1-1) travels to Emerson on Saturday, September 13th to begin their five game road trip. Just the opposite of the Beavers, Saint Joseph's (1-4) will begin their own five game home stand starting with Mount Ida on Saturday, September 14th.
