LAST MEETING
The Mules snapped a UMF four-game winning streak a year ago with a 4-0 victory in Waterville. The Beavers allowed a goal in the 21st minute and then two goals o Emily Anderson, one in the 25th minute and then one in the 60th minute. Colby added the final goal of the game in the 67th minute.
Beth Lebel stopped five shots in the first half and Amy Jones recorded two saves in the second half.
WEEK RECAP
UMF began conference play this weekend in the Green Mountain State. The Beavers traveled to Poultney to face Green Mountain College and walked away with a 6-0 win. Six different players scored for the Beavers. Saturday's shutout was a near replica of a year ago when the Beavers silenced GMC, 7-0.
The Beavers made the short trip on Sunday from Poultney to Castleton where the Spartans scored in the 14th minute, but it was the difference maker as UMF fell, 1-0. Sam Hatch saved 10 shots on the afternoon.
SATURDAY SWEEP
Saturday's wins from men's soccer, women's soccer, and field hockey was the first time since October 26, 2013 that three UMF teams won on the same day. Men's soccer's soccer defeated Green Mountain, 6-0, a year ago and walked away with a 4-3 victory over GMC on Saturday.
Field Hockey topped Lasell, 5-0, on Senior Day last year and the Beavers earned a conference win on Saturday over rival Castleton, 5-4. Women's soccer saw similar results from 2013 as UMF defeated GMC, 7-0, a year ago and left Poultney Saturday with a 6-0 shutout.
HOME STYLE COOKIN'
UMF has faired well at home recently. Today may mark only the second home game of the season, but the Beavers won their home opener, 1-0, on September 10th against Saint Joseph's (Me.). UMF is 11-4-2 at Prescott Field dating back to 2012. The Beavers have shut out their opponents in nine of the 10 victories and outscored their opponents 75-40 during the 17 matchups in Farmington.
SCOUTING THE MULES
Colby comes into today's matchup off a split week as the Mules shutout Southern Maine last Wednesday, 3-0. It was the team's third shutout so far this season and the 16th career shutout for goalie Emily Brook.
The Mules fell 1-0 to conference rival Middlebury on Saturday. The game remained scoreless until the 29th minute when the Colby defense allowed the only goal of the game. Brook saved 11 shots on the day.
Colby usually takes a period to get in sync, but the team uses the second half to take over the game. The Mules have scored eight of their 12 goals this season in the second half. Six of the twelve goals have come from three players with two goals apiece, spreading the wealth.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
If the Beavers sneak a goal past Colby keeper Emily Brook, the team may want to hang on to the game ball. Brook leads the NESCAC with 54 saves this season, 20 more than Wesleyan's Jessica Tollman who sits in second. Brook also ranks fifth in the conference with a .857 shot percentage and 10th in goals against average with a 1.28 GAA.
Avalon Amador leads the Beavers with three goals this season. All three of Amador's goals have been scored in three of the past six games. Teammate Sarah Pokorny netted her two goals in Saturday's victory of Green Mountain and has taken a shot in every game this season, except the 4-0 loss to top-ranked Bowdoin. Pokorny trails Amador by only a point for the team's lead so look for the senior duo to help the Beavers get on the scoreboard today.
