Box Score Biddeford, ME – The UMaine-Farmington's women's soccer team opened the 2014 campaign with a loss at the University of New England 4-0 on Saturday.
The Beavers were outshot 36-5 in the game by giving up four goals to four different Nor'easters players.
UNE got on the board early with a goal by Jackie Dickerson in the 18th minute after getting an assist from Anna Michaud. UNE made it 2-0 when Jessica Meader found the back of the net with a header, her second goal of the season. The Beavers had a chance two minutes later when Bridget Humphrey got a shot on goal, but it hit the crossbar.
After an offsides call against UMF, the Nor'easters took advantage by adding another goal from Anna Michaud, her first of the season. UNE scored the final goal of the game five minutes later in the 57th minute when Becca Murphy headed in a pass from Sarah Bunnell.
Sam Hatch (Hebron, Maine/Oxford Hills) recorded 8 saves in the game for the Beavers, four per half. Emily Richards guarded the net for UNE but only had to deflect two shots.
The Beavers host their annual alumni game on Sunday at 2:00pm. The first official home opener happens Wednesday afternoon when Saint Joseph's (ME) comes to Farmington. Game time is set at 4:00pm.
