Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) scored a pair of goals as the University of Maine at Farmington (7-3, 2-1) field hockey team charted four unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 non-conference win at Thomas College (6-8, 2-1) on Wednesday evening.
Thomas tallied the first goal of the contest in the 20th minute with an unassisted score from Abigail Dunn.
Less than a minute later, Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) answered back with the equalizer. After Andrea Stemm (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) fired a shot on goal, then Talarico regained control and lined the shot into the back of the cage.
As the score remained 1-1 at the break, UMF jumped out of the gate in the second half. Five minutes into the final period, the Beavers were presented with a penalty corner. LeAnne Greenleaf (Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner) passed into the circle to Rebecca Young (Plainfield, N.H./Kimball Union Academy), who dished it off to Sarita Crandall (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) for the score.
Spahr pushed UMF's lead to 3-1 with her first goal of the contest in the 46th minute with the assist coming from Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Aratat). Spahr gave UMF its final margin of victory in the 49th minute after the Beavers' offense took advantage of another corner opportunity.
Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) recorded three saves in the outing with all of them coming in the first half.
UMaine-Farmington returns to conference action on Saturday with a trip to Colby-Sawyer.
