Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – A pair of double-doubles gave the University of Maine at Farmington (5-15, 4-9) a, 69-65, conference victory over Lyndon State College (7-12, 6-7) at Dearborn Gymnasium on Friday night.
The Beavers fought back from an eight-point deficit in the first half to claim an eight-point lead of their own at the break. UMF shot 57.7% percent from the field in the opening period and outplayed the Hornets down low, outscoring Lyndon, 18-4, in the paint.
Avery King wasted very little time getting the Hornets back into the game. King scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half after nailing five three pointers. Lyndon erased a 10-point UMF lead down to four points with 11:35 remaining in the half.
UMF regained control and pushed the advantage back to 10 points, but Lyndon's defensive pressure caused timely turnovers in the final minutes to give the Hornets a window of opportunity. With a minute remaining, the Beavers held a three-point lead. Lyndon's David Johnson recorded a steal and fired the equalizer from long range, but the shot found all iron. The Hornets were forced to foul and UMF hit all six free throws in the last thirty seconds.
Nick Hilton scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Uriah Forest-Bulley followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
UMaine-Farmington returns to the court tomorrow afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off with Johnson State. Lyndon will make the trip to Waterville to play Thomas College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as well.
