Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team (2-6, 1-3) scored seven second half goals, but Thomas College matched the Beavers with seven goals of its own and held on for a, 10-7, conference win on Tuesday night at Smith Field.
The Terriers took a three-goal lead into the break after tallying a pair of unassisted goals and scoring on a free position shot. Coming out of intermission, Thomas bumped its lead to, 5-0, with its third unassisted goal of the game and then capitalized on a man-up opportunity.
Junior Ayla Allen (Rumford, Maine) broke the shutout and brought the Beavers within striking distance after scoring two of her team-high three goals. After Thomas added two more scores for a, 7-2, advantage, Danielle Conway (Lakeville, Mass.) kept UMF in the game with her second goal of the season after getting the assist from Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine).
UMF faced a six-goal deficit after Thomas scored two goals in a twenty six second span. Sierra Gilley (Harpswell, Maine) and Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine) kept the Beavers in the game with back-to-back goals. Jackson assisted Gilley's score and then three and a half minutes later, Jackson found the back of the net with the assist coming from Raymond.
Thomas scored its final goal of the game just before the clock struck six minutes, but Farmington put together a fierce rally in the final minute and a half. Allen netted her third goal of the evening at the 1:26 mark and then Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H.) followed suit sixteen seconds later. Langevin won the draw control and then scored UMF's last score of the evening as Gilley was there to dish the assist.
Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) saved eight shots on the evening. Farmington won the ground ball battle (32-31) and draw controls (10-9) but Thomas capitalized on two free position shots whereas UMF was 0-for-6.
UMaine-Farmington will celebrate the careers of seniors, Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine) and Sarah Pokorny (Wayne, Maine) on Saturday for Senior Night. The Beavers host Johnson State at 1:00 p.m. and scheduled to play at Smith Field on the campus of Thomas College.
