Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of New England (2-0-0) spoiled the first game played on Bob Leib Field with a 5-0 shutout over the University of Maine at Farmington (0-1-0) in Sunday's non-conference match-up.
Jessica Meader tallied the first goal of the game with a breakaway at 14:49 to give the Nor'easters an early lead. With 27:45 remaining in the opening half, Jackie Dickerson fired a shot on goal, but the shot hit the post and bounced to Brionne Turcotte, who hit the one-timer for the score.
Later in the half, Kara Hecker scored on a corner kick. Hecker launched a bending shot from the corner and as UMF goalie Sam Hatch jumped up for the save, the shot was just tall enough to hit the keeper's gloves and find the back of the net.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Becca Murphy charted her second goal of the season off the assist from Kara Hecker. UNE added one more in the second half when Taylor Usko's header gave the final margin of victory after the cross from Taylor Littlefield.
Hatch saved seven shots in the non-conference showdown and UNE goalie Emily Ashman saved a pair of shots.
UMaine-Farmington travels to UMaine-Presque Isle on Wednesday to continue a four-game non-conference stretch to open the season. UNE will travel to Bangor on Wednesday to play Husson.
