Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Jenessa Talarico and Rebecca Young combined for six goals and four assists to lead the University of Maine at Farmington (2-0) to a, 13-1, non-conference victory over Wheelock College on Sunday afternoon.
Farmington's offense was relentless through 70 minutes, scoring just under five minutes into the game when Emmah Spahr tallied her second goal in two days with an assist from Sarita Crandall. After the clocked ticked past the eight minute mark, Crandall scored a goal of her own after the Beavers converted on a penalty corner. Young was credited with her first of three assists on the afternoon.
UMF closed out the half with six more goals as Young added to her offensive contribution with the first of three goals at the 10:40 mark. The Beavers pulled off an impressive feat by scoring two goals in less than 10 seconds. Talarico gave the Beavers a 4-0 lead at 14:30 and then Susan Newkirk added another one eight seconds later with Talarico getting an assist.
Young and Talarico stayed on check with three more goals before the end of the half to give UMF an 8-0 advantage at the break.
Spahr added her second goal of the day eight shortly into the final half with Young dishing another assist.
Wheelock broke UMF's attempt at a shutout with a goal in the 48th minute by Katie Frade.
Talarico and Young teamed up once more with nine minutes left on the clock as Talarico found the back of the cage for her final goal of the afternoon with Young there for the assist.
The final three goals of the afternoon were all milestone goals. Freshmen Emma Martineau, Rylie Turner, and Andrea Stemm all scored their first collegiate goals.
Patty Smith and Alyssa Arsenault split time between the pipes for Farmington, as Smith earned the win with two saves.
UMaine-Farmington will play at the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday in final game of a three-game road trip to open the season.
