Women's Soccer Travels to Colby-Sawyer Looking for Upset

FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer (7-10-0, 5-4-0) travels to Colby-Sawyer (7-8-1, 6-2-1) in a quarterfinal match-up in the North Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Championship.

Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinal round which will be played on Wednesday, November 2. Top-seeded NEC will host the winner of the Maine Maritime/Castleton quarterfinal, while No. 2 Husson will host the winner of the Colby-Sawyer/UMF quarterfinal contest. Semifinal game times will be released at a later date.

UMF and Colby-Sawyer played just a week ago in Farmington with the Chargers coming away with the 3-1 victory.  Colby-Sawyer scored twice in the first half on goals by Lizzie Jorgenson and Neil McQueeney.  The Chargers went up 3-0 on a Rachel Quaye goal before UMF got on the board with a Lydia Roy score in the second half.  Colby-Sawyer had the 22-13 edge in shots and also 4-3 on corners.

UMF ranks fourth in the NAC with 33 goals scored in conference play, Colby-Sawyer is third with 37.  The Beavers are led by 2nd team All-Conference midfielder Ashley Gleason(Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) with 11 goals and 3 assists, Lydia Roy (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) with 10 goals and 4 assists, and Hadlee Yescott (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) with 9 goals and 2 assists.

Coach Molly Wilkie believes a key to getting the upset victory will be in the communication on the field, "We have to work as a unit of a team of eleven players, not two separate groups of offense and defense."

Defensively the Beavers have given up 18 goals in NAC play, compared to 10 by the Chargers.

Since 2011, Colby-Sawyer has had the advantage in the match-up with a 6-0-1 record.  The teams have met once in the playoffs, 2012 with the Chargers taking a 4-1 victory.

Semifinal winners will square off for the conference championship on Saturday, November 5, at a time to be determined at the site of the higher seed.

The NAC Champion will receive an automatic berth to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
