Box Score SALEM, Mass. -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's team (1-1) fell on the road at Salem State (1-1) with a 15-6 non-conference loss on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Salem jumped out to a 2-0 cushion in the first five minutes but Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Aratat) answered for the Beavers at 25:42. Raymond scored with a free position shot to draw UMF within a goal.
Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) and Alaina Shorey (Lebanon, Maine/Noble) guided the Beavers back into the contest and tied the game at 3-3 near the midway point of the first half. Balboni followed Raymond's goal with a free position shot of her own and then Shorey added an unassisted goal with 19:18 left in the opening half.
The Beavers rode the momentum further and claimed a 5-3 lead after Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H./Bow) tallied UMF's third free position goal of the half. After Langevin gave UMF its first lead, Balboni contributed her second goal at 16:52.
The Vikings clawed back and tied the game at 5-5 but not before Balboni give UMF a 6-5 lead with her third goal of the first half. The play was set up by a Raymond assist at the nine minute mark.
Salem held an 8-6 advantage at the break and then scored seven goals in the second half, including a game-high four goals from Erin Riley. Courtney Smith, Carloyn Woodin, and Kristina Colon charted hat tricks for the Vikings.
Alyssa Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) stopped seven shots in net today for the Beavers.
UMaine-Farmington continues non-conference play on Tuesday at Wentworth.
