Box Score BOSTON – University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse (2-1) used eight combined goals from Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine/Waynflete) and Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H./Bow) to comeback and hold on for a 15-14 non-conference win over Wentworth College (2-3) on Tuesday evening.
Jackson evened the score at 1-1 only two and a half minutes into the contest as UMF was playing the role of comeback kids for the entire half. Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) scored the first of her two goals near the 20-minute mark to draw within a goal, 3-2.
Wentworth extended its lead back to a two-goal advantage but Langevin closed the gap to 4-3 with an assist coming from Rebecca Young (Plainfield, N.H./Kimball Union Academy).
Once more, Wentworth bumped the lead back to two goals but Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Aratat) notched an unassisted goal at 12:38 to trim Wentworth's lead to 5-4.
Micaela Sargent (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) scored her first-career goal with a free-position shot nearly a minute after Raymond's goal and tied the game at 5-5.
After Wentworth took a 6-5 lead, Balboni and Langevin tallied unassisted goals in the final two minutes as UMF took a 7-6 lead into the break.
The Beavers rode the momentum to start the second half by scoring four goals in the first five minutes, including a pair from Raymond.
Wentworth battled back to tie the game and eventually took a 12-11 lead. The duo of Langevin and Jackson would not let the game get away as the two recorded the next three goals for a 14-12 advantage.
As Wentworth eventually tied the contest at 14-14 with 4:47 left in the game, Langevin came through with the decisive goal at 4:07 on a free position shot.
Alyssa Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) picked up the win after making seven saves in net to help UMF hold on for the non-conference victory.
UMaine-Farmington begins conference play on Saturday with a trip to New England College.
