Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse (2-3, 0-2) sophomore midfielder Sierra Gilley (Harspwell, Maine/Mt. Aratat) charted a pair of goals on Saturday afternoon as the Beavers were tripped up by Castleton University (4-4, 2-0) with a 23-5 North Atlantic Conference loss at Prescott Field.
The Beavers cut into a 5-0 Castleton lead at the 20:21 mark when Alaina Shorey (Lebanon, Maine/Noble) came through with her first goal of the contest. Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) passed off to Shorey, who drove through the Spartans' defense for the score.
A minute later, UMF used a Castleton penalty to its advantage as Gilley notched a man-up goal and her first of the afternoon with the assist coming from Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Aratat).
Just past the halfway point of the first half, Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine/Waynflete) scored her sixth goal of the year on a free-position shot. Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H./Bow) added a free-position goal with two ticks under the two-minute mark in the first half.
Gilley added UMF's final goal of the afternoon in the last minute of regulation.
On the defensive end, Erica Letellier (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) scooped up four ground balls to match a team-high and caused a game-high five turnovers. Langevin matched Letellier with four ground balls and won a team-high seven draw controls.
Alyssa Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) set a career-high as the rookie made 15 saves in net for UMF.
Brianna MacKay had an impressive day for the Spartans with a game-high eight goals and three assists. Brandi Whittemore contributed five goals and a pair of assists.
UMaine-Farmington travels to Green Mountain College next Saturday.
