New London, N.H. - UMaine Farmington finished fourth in the North Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on a cold and rainy Sunday at the Sally Shaw Veitch Track and Field.
Picked as the preseason favorite, the Chargers edged second place Husson by just one half of a point. Colby-Sawyer avenged a half of a point loss to the Eagles in 2015 by winning today's championship with 206 points to Husson's 205.5 points. Castleton placed third (79), followed by UMaine-Farmington (62), Lyndon (14.5) and Johnson State (12).
Today at the NAC championship the Women's team placed 4th Victoria Marquis had a 7th place finish in the 100. Alexis Laliberte finished her 400 at 1:06.90. Bridget Humphrey placed 2nd in high jump with a jump of 4-10. Laura Pulito and teammate Kirstin Corey were able to go 3,4 in the 800. Sophomore Olivia Ridley earned herself a runner up spot in the women's 5k with a time 19:49.14. The women's triple jumpers had a field day taking 3 of the top six spots. Morgan Crocker and Bridget Humphrey placed 3rd and 4th followed by teammate Kaitlyn Virgin. Jessica Brink placed 3rd in the discus for the Beavers.
The Chargers were trailing Husson by 2.5 points heading into the day's final event, the shot put. Each team had three throwers earn points, but Colby-Sawyer collected 17 points to Husson's 14 to earn the half point win. Emmani Robinson won the event for the third-straight season with a meet record distance of 12.81 meters.
Husson's Leah Desjardins took top honors in the 100 meter dash with a meet record time of 12.90. Desjardins' teammate Brooke Hopple won the 200 meter dash for the third-straight season with a meet record time of 26.95. Hoople also won the 400 meter dash with the lone sub-minute time at 59.96. Paige Rainford picked up her second-straight NAC championship victory in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.64. Husson's Hoople, Desjardins, Shea Curley and Arianna McKinnon won the 4x100 relay, while Hoople and McKinnon teamed with Rainford and Adreona Daniels to win the 4x400 relay. Each team set a meet record. Kerianne Downing added to the Husson win total by achieving a meet record height of 1.48 meters in the high jump, while Jessica Dessert took the top spot in the pole vault with a height of 2.80 meters and Erin Ellison won the hammer for the second-straight year with an ECAC qualifying mark of 46.05 meters.
Colby-Sawyer received a pair of victories from Kylee Parker, as she won the 1500 meter run (5:05.54) and 5000 meter run in a meet record time of 19:36.87. Emily Lopez won the 800 meter run for the second-straight year with a time of 2:20.41. Shari Rainville crossed the finish line first in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.49 to give the Chargers 10 points, while Nia Fraser posted a school record distance of 5.17 meters to win the long jump and Amanda Martin also got a school record in the triple jump with a distance of 10.64 meters. Rachel Quaye was the victor in the javelin for the third time with an ECAC mark of 35.48 meters.
Brynn Cairns collected Johnson State's lone win of the afternoon with an impressive showing in the 3000 meter steeplechase, clocking in at 12:41.12 to beat the nearest competitor by more than five seconds.
