Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team extended its winning streak to six straight games and improved to 7-1-0 overall with a 5-1 victory over North Atlantic Conference rival Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, Saturday afternoon at Leib Field.
The Beavers improved their conference mark to 4-1-0 with the win, which was their third five-goal performance of the season.
Gracien Mukwa came off the bench to tally two goals and two assists, including an assist on what proved to the game winner by Coleman Watson in the 36th minute. That goal extended UMaine-Farmington's lead to 2-0, after Garrett Whitten's unassisted strike in the 16th minute of play.
In the second half, Mukwa notched his first goal of the day, his fifth of the season, in the 49th minutes with a redirection inside the six-yard box on Aric Belanger's cross from the right side. Jimmy Pelletier nearly duplicated the play in the 51st minute from the left side, this time off a pass from Mukwa, who earned his second goal of the day in the 53rd minute off a crossing pass from Yusuf Mohamed.
UMaine-Farmington lost its bid for a clean sheet for keeper Bradley Neal in the 64th minute when Lyndon's Gilbert Flores finished a long run on the right side and beat Neal to cut the margin to 5-1.
The Beavers had a commanding 33-2 advantage in total shots, with Hornet keeper Brett Roy finishing the day with nine saves. Neal and backup Josh Castonguay combined to record one save in the UMaine-Farmington goal.
UMaine-Farmington men's soccer steps out of the NAC loop this week to face Fisher College on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m. The Beavers return home on Saturday, Oct. 9, to host Cazenovia College at Leib Field starting at 2:30 p.m.
