Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine -- A three-goal surge by the University of New England to close out the first half helped propel the Nor'easters past the visiting University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team, 7-0, on Wednesday evening at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The Beavers came out and applied pressure early to challenge the Nor'easters, but neither team was able to score until the latter stages of the opening stanza. UNE eventually got on the scoreboard with a goal Sam Barone in the 34th minute, and Emma Christopher added a second Nor'easter goal barely four minutes later.
Katie Rokes struck in the 44th minute, sending the teams into the intermission with UNE holding a 3-0 lead.
Lauren Beitler scored twice in the second half for New England - in the 55th and 76th minutes - while Caitlin Angers added a goal in the 70th minute and Barone picked up her second of the night in the 81st minute.
Callie Hammer charted five saves over 60 minutes in the UMaine-Farmington goal, with Lily Souza finishing out the final 30 minutes and recording four saves. UNE outshot UMaine-Farmington, 25-8, and the Nor'easters took nine corner kick opportunities to the Beavers' two.
UMaine-Farmington women's soccer returns to North Atlantic Conference play this weekend when the Beavers host a pair of conference rivals from New York state. UMF will face Cazenovia College on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 12:00 p.m., and SUNY Poly on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 11:00 a.m.
