Box Score BANGOR, Maine – An early lead for the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team was unable to hold up against a Husson University rally and the Beavers fell to the host Eagles, 2-1, in a North Atlantic Conference East Division matchup on Saturday at Boucher Field.
Jimmy Pelletier notched the Beavers' lone goal in the 13th minute, scoring on a penalty kick with 31:34 showing on the first half game clock after Husson was denied on three early corner kick opportunities.
Husson's Jordi Cabau Limens knotted the game at 1-1 in the 21st minute, and Mario Alvarez Salgad put the Eagles in front, 2-1, on a penalty kick goal with 14:24 remaining in the half.
UMaine-Farmington capped the opening stanza with a late counterattack that saw one late Cassidy Pound shot blocked, and a second attempt in the waning seconds was saved by Husson keeper Benjamin Powell.
Some early pressure by the Beavers early in the second half yielded an attempt by Gracien Mukwa that was blocked and an ensuing unsuccessful corner kick, but that would turn out to be UMaine-Farmington's only offensive chances of the second half. Husson tallied nine shots in the second half, with Beaver keeper Jonah Sautter charting saves on three of the attempts.
Sautter finished the day with five total saves in the UMaine-Farmington goal, while Powell recorded one save for Husson. The Eagles outshot the Beavers, 16-5, and tallied 10 corner kicks while UMF had two.
UMaine-Farmington men's soccer returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 12, when the Beavers travel to Johnson, Vermont, to face Northern Vermont University-Johnson. Game time is 2:00 p.m
