Women's soccer downs UMaine-Presque Isle for conference victory

Box Score

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – First year Morgan Thompson and senior McKenna Brodeur teamed up to score the Beavers' lone goal of the game and lift the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Saturday afternoon at Park Family Field.

UMaine-Presque Isle pressured UMaine-Farmington in the game's early minutes, and the Owls registered three shots on the Beaver goal over the first five minutes of play.

However, the Owls recorded just one shot over the remainder of the first half, as the Beavers began to find their groove offensively.

Thompson finally got UMaine-Farmington on the scoreboard when she finished off the feed from Brodeur in the 24th minute on the Beavers' third shot of the game.

The second half was all UMaine-Farmington, as the Beavers outshot the Owls, 19-6, over the final 45 minutes. UMF finished the game with a 28-10 advantage in total shots, and six corner kicks to Presque Isle's one.

UMaine-Farmington keeper Callie Hammer charted five stops in the Beavers' goal, while UMPI's Savannah Rodriguez finished with 15 saves.

The Beavers will face state rival Colby College on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Leib Field. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
