PORTLAND, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington golf team opened up their season at Riverside Golf Course in a Tri-Match hosted by the University of Southern Maine against the Huskies and Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The Beavers placed 3rd, with their top-four scorers combining to shoot a score of 344.
Junior Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon Falls, Maine) led the Beavers on the course this afternoon as he carded a 77 (+5) to place 3rd individually. Senior Ryan Sargent (Windham, Maine) was carded the Beavers 2nd lowest score, tallying an 82 (+10), finishing in 10th place. Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) scored an 88 (+16) and Thomas Thornton (Readfield, Maine) shot a 97 (+25) in his first collegiate appearance to round of the scoring for the Beavers.
Sam Parsell (Newington, Conn.) also competed for the Beavers, carding a 102 (+30), but would not contribute to the teams overall score.
LaRochelle shot a 40 on the front nine before finishing strong with a 37 on the back nine. LaRochelle's round consisted of 11 pars en route to his 3rd place finish.
The Huskies took 1st place overall as a team, shooting a four golfer score of 311. The Monks finished five strokes behind, carding a team score of 316. Drew Mathieu of St. Joe's took 1st place individually with a 73 (+1), just a stroke ahead of Jackson Horne of USM who rallied on the back nine to card a 74 (+2) for the round out of the Huskies fifth spot.

The Beavers will return to the course on Wednesday when they travel to Casco, Maine to play in the John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Club. The Beavers will be looking to improve upon their 7th place finish from a season ago.
