Roger Adams Named Head Coach of UMF Golf

FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Roger Adams as the head coach of the golf program. Adams will assume his responsibilities on August 17 and is eager to lead the program to continued success within the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

"We are thrilled to have Roger join our staff and become the next leader of our golf program. His background and experience in teaching and coaching the game of golf stood out throughout the search process and will be invaluable to the experience of our student-athletes. Our department and student-athletes are extremely fortunate to have him on board, and we look forward to having him lead our program as we strive for continued growth and competitive success year after year," Director of Athletic Jamie Beaudoin said.

Adams grew up in the Farmington area and attended Mt. Blue High School, where he was a member of the golf team that won the state championship in 1982 and finished as the state runner-up in 1983. Adams is also a 1988 graduate of the University of Maine, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. During his time as a Black Bear, Adams played golf for a couple of seasons, further fueling his passion for the game.

Following graduation, Adams entered the PGA program and worked at golf courses across several states, including Florida, Washington, Oregon, and California. Beyond golf, Adams worked as an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance, eventually opening his own agency in San Diego, California. He sold the agency in 2019 before returning to Maine to pursue his passion for teaching and coaching the game of golf.

Adams founded his own company, Action Golf LLC, where he focuses on group and individual coaching clinics and lessons in an effort to share his knowledge of the game with the greater community. He utilizes the Stack and Tilt Teaching Method in his coaching and is currently
working toward certification in the methodology.

A lifelong student of the game, Adams said, "I am excited to start working with our student-athletes and help each of them improve their golf skills. I want to provide them with a positive experience that teaches strong teamwork, sportsmanship, and etiquette. It is my goal for our student-athletes to be proud of their golf experience at UMF and to graduate from Farmington feeling that their time on the golf team has benefited them in their future endeavors."

The 2026 UMF Golf Team returns to campus on August 24th and will look to improve on their 7th place finish from last season's NAC Championship under Adams' tutelage.
