Beavers Open up 2nd Semester at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams opened up the 2nd semester today at the Bowdoin Invitational competing against Bowdoin, Colby, and Thomas. 

Men's Highlights

Senior Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) had a strong day for the Beavers, claiming 1st overall in the 600 meters while also grabbing a 7th place finish in the 60 meter dash. Castaldo raced to a time of 1:26.63 in the 600 meters to claim the victory. Castaldo finished the final heat of the 60 meter dash in 8.26 seconds. 

Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) was a standout today for the Beavers. Vachon picked up a 1st place and a 2nd place finish in the two events that he competed in. In the long jump, Vachon's best jump was marked at 6.56 meters to claim 1st overall and qualify for the New England Championships. He placed 2nd in the triple jump with a mark of 12.89 meters, a personal record. 

Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) continued his torrid season with a pair of 1st place finishes in the shot put and the weight throw. Canwell's final attempt in the shot put was marked at 13.46 meters while his best weight throw came in at 14.75 meters.


Connor McFarland (Damariscotta, Maine) tallied a pair of top-six finishes, finishing 2nd overall in the 400 meter run and 7th overall in the triple jump. McFarland finished the 400 meters with a time of 55.29 seconds. His best jump in the triple jump was marked at 11.87 meters.

Raymond Brickle (Hampden, Maine) placed 3rd overall in the 600 meters, posting a time of 1:40.80. Brickle also ran the 1st leg of the 4x400 relay team that grabbed 2nd overall with a time of 3:50.94. Thomas Gingras (Gardiner, Maine), Nathan Trussel (Brewer, Maine), and Charlie Thompson (Coventry, Vermont) were the other three runners to compete in the 4x400 relay.

Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) grabbed a 2nd place finish in the mile run, finishing with an impressive time of 4:43.92.

Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) and Luke Bliss finished 5th and 6th respectively in the 3,000 meter run. LaFlammed posted a time of 9:17.67 while Bliss finished with a time of 9:22.75.

Thompson finished 4th overall in the pole vault, clearing the 3.35 meter mark.

Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) posted two 6th place finishes, placing 6th in both the shot put and the weight throw. Crews' shot put was marked at 11.66 meters while his weight throw was marked at 11.56 meters.

Alex Sheran placed 5th in the weight throw with a throw marked at 11.68 meters.

Women's Highlights

Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) broke the program 60 meter dash record on a pair of occasions. First, in the preliminary heat, she raced to a time of 8.31 seconds to break the record. Qualifying as the 2nd seed for the finals, she cut down to an 8.28 second time to break the record once again and place 2nd for the event.

Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) and Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) finished 3rd and 4th overall in the 60 meter dash with times of 8.69 seconds and 8.71 seconds respectively. Todd added a 4th place finish in the 200 meter dash, finishing with a time of 29.87 seconds. 

Joy Evans (Farmington, Maine) grabbed 2nd place, finishing with a time of 3:18.77 in the 1,000 meter run. Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) placed 6th in the event, posting a time of 3:37.05. 

Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland) and Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) placed 2nd and 3rd overall in the mile. Poteet finished with a time of 6:21.49 while MacDonald finished with a time of 6:49.69.

Burr, Evans, and the MacDonald sisters finished with a time of 11:11.63 to grab 1st place in the 4x800 meter relay.

Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) had an impressive day for the Beavers. In the preliminary round of the 60 meter dash she finished 3rd, racing to a time of 8.36 seconds but did not compete in the final heat. She did grab 2nd place overall in the triple jump. Her best jump was marked at 9.67 meters.

Ilana Lybarger and Emily Hargreaves each had top-eight finishes in both the shot put and the weight throw. Lybarger placed 7th overall in the shot put with a throw of 9.26 meters. She placed 3rd overall in the weight throw after her best throw was marked at 12.44 meters. Hargreaves finished 8th overall in the shot put with a throw marked at 9.15 meters. Her 12.48 meter throw in the weight throw was good for 2nd place. 

Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) placed 7th in the weight throw with a throw marked at 10.53 meters.

The Beavers will compete at the Bates Invitational next Saturday.
