Alexander, Crews, and LaFlamme Receive NAC Weekly Honors

WATERVILLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Farmington track and field teams earned three North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekly awards. Junior distance runner Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) took home Track Athlete of the Week honors, junior thrower Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) was named Field Athlete of the Week, and first-year multis competitor Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) earned Rookie of the Week.


Andrew LaFlamme competed in the 5,000 meters at the Southern New Hampshire University Invitational, posting a time of 15:25.55, which broke the UMF program record. In addition to his record-breaking performance, he provisionally qualified for the New England Track and Field Championships.


Alex Crews competed in three throwing events at the invitational. He finished third in the shot put finals with a throw of 13.69 meters. In the discus finals, he placed eighth with a distance of 35.83 meters. In the hammer throw qualifying round, he finished fourth with a distance of 43.08 meters.


Heather Alexander competed in the 4x100-meter relay, multiple hurdle events, and the javelin. The 4x100 relay team placed fifth with a time of 53.90. Individually, Alexander finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.21 and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:17.67. She also advanced to the javelin finals, where she placed sixth with a throw of 33.53 meters.


The track and field teams will return to action on April 4 at the Springfield College Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts.
