FARMINGTON, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team surrendered a pair of goals in the second half, dropping a critical North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest at home on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0.

The Records:

Following the loss, the Beavers fell to 5-6-3 overall and now sit at 4-4 in conference play. The Eagles improved their record to 8-4-2 with a 5-3 mark in NAC play.

How It Happened:

Offense came at a premium in the first half, as neither team was able to produce high-quality scoring opportunities. The best chance for either team came in the 34th minute when Husson was whistled for a foul about 25 yards from goal near the left corner of the penalty area. Mohamed Adow (Auburn, Maine) lined up to take the free kick. Adow had scored on similar attempts three times this season.

This time, Adow did not achieve the same result. He was unable to lift the ball, as his shot was low and along the ground around the Husson wall. The shot didn't force Eagle goalkeeper Wessel De Wit to move much, as he made the save to keep the score tied at zero.

The contest was highly competitive and extremely physical, with the two teams combining for eight yellow cards and one red card, the energy matching that of a playoff contest.

Husson broke the scoreless tie in the opening minutes of the second half. Carsen Cyr was sent behind the Beavers' backline on a pass from Alejandro Castellanos. Cyr took a touch and then slotted a shot past the dive of Beavers goalkeeper Jackson Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) to give Husson a 1-0 lead.

Nine minutes after Cyr broke the tie, Pedro Molina scored to double the Eagle lead. A long ball over the top of the Beavers' defense sent Arden Weaver (Surry, Maine) backward. As Weaver attempted to clear the ball while retreating, he was unable to make solid contact. Molina scooped up the mishit and found himself alone with Leach. Leach gave a valiant effort, coming off his line to close the angle, but it wasn't enough to turn aside Molina's shot.

The Beavers frantically tried to score to get back into the game, producing numerous corner kicks but were unable to send anything meaningful on net.

Team Stats:

Stats were evenly matched, as Farmington held a 7-6 advantage in shots. Each team had two shots on goal, and the Beavers enjoyed a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Goalkeepers:

Leach did not make a save in the loss, while De Wit made two saves to earn his fifth win of the season.
