Highlights from the Colby Invite

WATERVILLE, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington competed at the Colby Invitational on Saturday, the final indoor tune-up meet before the New England Regional Championships next weekend at the New Balance Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Men's Highlights:

Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) took home 1st place in the 1,000-meter run, posting an impressive time of 2:36.37 in the winning effort. Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) finished less than two seconds behind Castaldo in 3rd place, posting a time of 2:38.36. Connor McFarland (Damariscotta, Maine) placed 6th in the event, finishing with a time of 2:43.85.

Senior Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) continued to be a menace in throws, grabbing a pair of 3rd place finishes in the weight throw and the shot put. Canwell's first throw attempt in the weight throw was measured at 15.98 meters to comfortably finish in 3rd place. Canwell's sixth and final attempt in the shot put measured at 14.19 meters.

First-year Alex Crews (Brewer, Maine) had a pair of strong performances in the weight throw and shot put as well. Crews finished 6th in the shot put and 11th in the weight throw. Crews' shot put measured in at 13.12 meters while his weight throw came in at 11.58 meters.

Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) placed 9th overall in the weight throw when his second attempt was measured at 12.25 meters.

Charlie Thompson (Coventry, N.H.) placed 4th in the pole vault, clearing the 3.20-meter bar. Thomas Gingras (Gardiner, Maine) placed 8th in the event, clearing the 2.45-meter mark. Gingras added a 7th place finish in the 400 meters, posting a time of 59.87 seconds.

Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) grabbed a pair of top-five performances, finishing 3rd overall in the long jump and 5th overall in the triple jump, just half an inch behind McFarland who placed 4th. Vachon's final attempt in the long jump was measured at 6.22 meters to earn him 3rd place. Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) finished 9th in the event with a jump of 5.44 meters. Vachon's 5th place triple jump was measured at 12.32 meters while McFarland's came in at 12.33 meters to secure 4th.

Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) ran a 4:44.47 mile, placing 7th overall in the event. Joseph Burgess (New Gloucester, Maine) placed 12th in the mile with a time of 5:05.36.

McFarland added a 7th place finish in the 200-meter run, finishing with a time of 23.79 seconds against a highly competitive field.

James Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished in 5th place in the 3,000-meter run. Riley ran a time of 9:24.14 in his 5th place effort.

Women's Highlights:

Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) and Ilana Lybarger (Brussels, Belgium) finished 4th and 5th respectively in the weight throw. Harmon-Bolding's final attempt was measured at 13.13 meters while Lybarger's third attempt came in at 12.01 meters.

Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) continued her strong season, finishing 7th overall in both the high jump and the 60-meter hurdles. Burr cleared the 1.46-meter mark on her third attempt in the high jump. In the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, Burr finished with a time of 10.52 seconds. Burr qualified for the finals heat by finishing with a time of 10.02 seconds in the preliminary round.

Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) finished with a time of 8.31 seconds in the finals heat of the 60-meter dash to take home 7th place.

Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) ran a 5:51.60 mile to place 6th overall in the event.

Joy Evans (Farmington, Maine) and Sarah Chapin (Readfield, Maine) each finished in the top-six of the 1,000-meter run. Evans posted a time of 3:13.78, just three seconds out of 1st place to grab 4th. Chapin finished with a time of 4:12.25 in her 6th place effort.

Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) grabbed 6th place in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 28.87 seconds.

UP NEXT

The NCAA New England Regional Championships will begin next Sunday.
