Women’s Track and Field Take 8th at Maine State Indoor Championships

GORHAM, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team grabbed 8th place at today's Maine State Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine. Today's field was ultra-competitive with competitors from Colby, USM, Bowdoin, Bates, St. Joseph's, Husson, and Thomas. The Beavers secured 15 points to grab 8th place. Bowdoin totaled 234 points to grab 1st place overall.

Highlights

In the 55 meter dash, Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) and Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) finished just outside the top-ten after the preliminary heats and were unable to qualify for the final heat. Burr placed 11th, posting a time of 7.75 seconds, just .08 out of contention to qualify. Johnson finished just behind Burr in 12th with a time of 7.88 seconds.

Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) posted a pair of 11th place finishes today for the Beavers. Perry took 11th in the 200 meters, posting a time of 29.46 seconds. She grabbed another 11th place finish in the 400 meters after her time of 1:07.96.

Joy Evans (Farmington, Maine) scored six points for the Beavers, finishing in 3rd place overall in the 800 meters. Evans posted a time of 2:28.48, just 1.9 seconds behind 2nd place.

Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) and Sarah Chapin (Readfield, Maine) finished 11th and 13th respectively in the mile. MacDonald finished with a time of 6:39.38 while Chapin posted a time of 7:20.35.

MacDonald doubled down with a 7th place finish in the 3,000 meters. MacDonald posted a time of 12:03.49 and picked up two points. Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland) finished 8th overall in the event, grabbing one point and finishing with a time of 12:36.54.

The foursome of Evans, Burr, Poteet, and MacDonald placed 5th overall in the 4x800 meter relay, posting a time of 11:01.37 and grabbing four points.

UP NEXT

The Beavers will compete at the Gordon Kelly Invitational hosted by MIT next weekend.
