BRUNSWICK, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington women's track and field team traveled to Bowdoin on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Lynn Ruddy Invitational.
Top Beaver Performances
The event kicked off on Friday evening with the pentathlon. First-year Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) was the lone Beaver to compete in the event. She held her own against the competitive nine-athlete field. Alexander worked her way into the middle of the pack, placing fifth overall and accumulating 2,531 points in the event.
On Saturday, the Beavers had several standout performances, including senior Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), who was nearly victorious in the 400 meters. Todd placed second overall in the event, posting a time of 1:06.80, just 0.78 seconds shy of first.
Junior Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine) performed well in the 800 meters, completing the race in 2:28.79 en route to a third-place finish overall.
Sophomore Emma Syphers (Bangor, Maine) delivered a 4.86-meter jump in the long jump and placed fourth overall in the event. Senior Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) placed ninth overall, reaching 4.66 meters on her best attempt.
Johnson added a second-place finish in the triple jump, reaching 10.70 meters. First-year Jenney Lutz (Lebanon, N.H.) and Syphers also competed in the event, placing seventh and ninth, respectively. Lutz reached 10.33 meters on her best attempt, while Syphers recorded a mark of 10.17 meters.
Lutz also competed in the 60 meters and the 200 meters. She nearly qualified for the finals in the 60 meters after placing ninth overall in the preliminary round, finishing in 8.43 seconds. In the 200 meters, Lutz finished seventh with a time of 28.02 seconds.
First-year Natalie Simpson (Bucksport, Maine) broke into the top ten in the shot put after her best throw measured 9.60 meters. She placed ninth overall with that mark.
