Day Two Recap at Monks Invitational

STANDISH, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams completed their weekend meet at the Monks Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The men placed 4th overall out of 15 teams while the women finished 5th out of the 15 teams.

Men's Highlights 

Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine), Charlie Thompson (Coventry, Vermont), and Thomas Gingras (Gardiner, Maine) made Farmington program history, becoming the first three athletes to finish the decathlon. Vachon placed 5th overall, totaling 4609 points. Thompson finished just behind Vachon, finishing with 4525 points. Gingras placed 12th overall, finishing with 3529 points. 

Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) completed his outstanding weekend, with another blowout victory in the hammer throw. Canwell's best attempt was marked at 50.31 meters, over 7.5 meters further than the 2nd place finisher. Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) placed 4th overall in the hammer, registering a throw of 39.26 meters. Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) finished 6th with a throw of 35.27 meters.

After the two day meet, the Beavers amassed 98 total points and placed 4th overall at the meet. Saint Joseph's College took 1st place as a team, totaling 184.5 points.

Women's Highlights

Emily Hargreaves (New Gloucester, Maine) and Ilana Lybarger (Brussels, Belgium) placed 4th and 5th respectively in the hammer throw. Hargreaves 2nd throw was measured at 37.13 meters, just 2.37 meters outside of 1st place. Lybarger was just behind Hargreaves with a throw marked at 35.35 meters. Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) placed outside the top-ten, placing 12th overall. Harmon-Bolding's best attempt was marked at 32.90 meters. 

Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) and Sarah Chapin (Readfield, Maine) placed inside the top-five of the 10,000 meters. MacDonald finished with a time of 48:31.27 to place 2nd. Chapin finished 4th overall, finishing in 51:20.67.

The women's team placed 5th overall, amassing 79 points over the two days at the Monks Invitational. Endicott College took 1st place, finishing with 174.5 points. 

UP NEXT

The Beavers will be competing next Friday and Saturday at the Pine Tree State Classic at Bowdoin College.
