Beavers Perform Well at Pine Tree State Classic

Brunswick, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams performed well at this weekend's Pine Tree State Classic hosted by Bowdoin College. The men placed 7th overall while the women finished in 8th.

Men's Highlights

The event kicked off with some throwing events on Friday evening. The Beavers placed three athletes inside the top-15 of the hammer throw. Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) led the Beavers with a 47.65 meter throw to place 3rd overall in the event. Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) placed 6th overall with his best attempt being marked at 36.58 meters. First-year Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) finished in 13th place overall with a competitive throw of 33.43 meters.

James Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) contended for 1st place in the 5,000 meters on Saturday. Riley placed 3rd overall in the event, finishing with a time of 15:55.83, just five seconds outside of 1st place.

Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) posted a monster 2nd place finish in the 10,000 meters, finishing with a highly respectable time of 35:23.06

Nate Trussell (Brewer, Maine) scored a big point in the 110 meter hurdles, posting a time of 16.62 seconds in the event. Trussell finished with a 12th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 1:02.52.

The Beavers 4x100 meter relay team of Thomas Gingras (Gardiner, Maine), Trussell, Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine), and Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) finished with a time of 45.88 seconds to place 7th overall in the highly competitive field.

Gingras, Reeve, Charlie Thompson (Coventry, Vermont), and Joseph Burgess (New Gloucester, Maine) finished with a time of 3:48.72 in the 4x400 meter relay to place 5th overall.

Canwell added a 5th place finish in the shot put with an executed throw of 13.09 meters. Crews was just behind him, placing 6th with a throw marked at 12.70 meters.

Canwell finished with yet another top-ten finish in the discus, finishing 6th with a throw of 39.51 meters. Sheran placed just outside the top-ten with a throw of 34.47 meters to place 11th.

Women's Highlights

Emily Hargreaves (New Gloucester, Maine) cracked the top-ten in the hammer throw, registering a throw of 37.07 meters on her first attempt. Ilana Lybarger (Brussels, Belgium) placed 18th overall with a throw measured at 34.10 meters.

Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) and Hannah Milliken (Greene, Maine) placed 10th and 11th respectively in the javelin. Perry's best throw was measured at 22.42 meters while Milliken's best was just two inches shorter, reaching 22.37 meters. Lybarger placed 16th overall with a throw of 20.78 meters.

Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) narrowly missed out on a top-ten finish in the 100 meter dash, posting a time of 14.20 seconds, just .26 seconds out of 10th place.

Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) finished with a time of 45:51.10 in the 10,000 meters to place 3rd overall in the event.

Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) showed very well for herself in the 100 meter hurdles, placing 5th overall with a fantastic time of 16.84 seconds.

Joy Evans (Farmington, Maine) placed inside the top-ten of the 400 meter hurdles, grabbing 7th place to score a pair of points. Evans posted a time of 1:20.70 in the event. Perry placed 10th overall in the event with a time of 1:27.00.

The Beavers foursome of Perry, Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine), Todd, and Johnson placed 3rd overall in the 100 meter relay, finishing with a time of 52.67 meters.

Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) cracked the top-ten in the discus, placing 7th overall with a throw measured at 31.62 meters.

UP NEXT

The Beavers will compete at the North Atlantic Conference Championships next Saturday and Sunday in New York.
