Women’s Track and Field Earns 2nd Place at the NAC Championship

ONEONTA, New York - The University of Maine at Farmington wrapped up the two day North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship track and field meet earlier today and placed 2nd overall, registering 157 points for the weekend. 

After qualifying for the 100 meter finals, Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) and Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.) each scored, finishing 4th and 5th respectively. Johnson finished with a time of 13.02 seconds in the race while Perry finished with a time of 13.21 seconds. Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) also returned to the finals, and placed 7th overall with a respectable time of 13.28 seconds.

Perry added two points, finishing 7th overall in the long jump after her best attempt was measured at 4.26 meters.

Johnson added an 8th placed finish in the 200 meters, posting a time of 27.91 seconds. Johnson capped her day with a 2nd place finish in the triple jump. Her best attempt was measured at 10.78 meters.

Joy Evans (Farmington, Maine), who won the 10k on Saturday, continued her strong meet on Sunday. Evans placed 4th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:19.83. She added a 7th place finish in the 1,500 meters after posting a time of 5:15.17. She was also part of the quartet of Burr, Anna MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) and Perry who combined to place 3rd overall in the 4x400 meter relay. The foursome finished with a time of 4:29.89.

Burr and Johnson continued their big days as well, each scoring in the 100 meter hurdles as well. Burr placed 3rd overall, finishing with a time of 16.84 seconds. Johnson was one one hundredth of a second behind Burr in 4th place. Burr added a 4th place finish in the high jump, clearing the 1.42 meter marker.

While Evans placed 4th in the 400 meter hurdles, MacDonald also scored in the event, grabbing 6th place overall after finishing with a time of 1:23.11. 

MacDonald, Eve Poteet (Fairhill, Maryland), and Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) scored meaningful points for the Beavers in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Anna MacDonald placed 3rd with a time of 13:29.35. Poteet was just behind her in 4th place with a time of 13:30.76 and Abby MacDonald was 6th with a time of 15:07.70.

In the 4x100 meter relay, Perry, Burr, Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine), and Johnson combined to post a time of 51.73 seconds to grab 2nd place overall.

Kaitlyn Harmon-Bolding (Biddeford, Maine) placed 5th overall in the discus after her best throw came in at 30.73 meters in a highly competitive field. 

Todd and Ilana Lybarger (Brussels, Belgium) each registered important points for the Beavers in the heptathlon. Todd placed 5th to scoop four points and Lybarger was 6th to gain three points.

The 2nd place finish as a team marked the best finish for the Beavers in program history. Thomas College was crowned the Champions after posting 183 points.

Johnson set program records in each of the 100 meters, 200 meters and the triple jump. She also qualified for the New England Regional Championship in the 100 meter dash. Burr set a program record in the 400 meter hurdles. The 4x100 meter team set a program record as well.

The Beavers will compete at the two day New England Regional Championships next Friday and Saturday.
