NEW ORLEANS, La. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the recipients of the All-Region honors last Friday. University of Maine at Farmington track and field athletes Carrie Burr (Pittsfield, Maine) and Alixx Canwell received East All-Region honors. Burr was recognized for her performance in the heptathlon, while Canwell received honors in the hammer throw.

USTFCCCA All-Region honors are awarded annually to athletes who are ranked in the top five in any single event within their region.

For Burr, she scored 3,950 points in the heptathlon at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza on May 10th and 11th at Williams College. In the event, Burr finished with a time of 16.18 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, 27.48 seconds in the 200 meters, 2:34.26 in the 800 meters, and had distances of 4.66 meters in the long jump, 27.85 meters in the javelin throw, 9.18 meters in the shot put, and cleared 1.45 meters in the high jump.

By receiving USTFCCCA East All-Region honors, Burr became the first female athlete in program history to receive this prestigious award.

For Canwell, the USTFCCCA All-Region honors are the icing on the cake of his historic UMF track and field career. Canwell put together one of the best careers in program history and is now a USTFCCCA East All-Region honoree in the hammer throw for the second time in his illustrious career.

The two-time NAC Champion in the hammer throw placed himself in the top five in the East region with a throw marked at 53.77 meters at the Southern New Hampshire University Spring Invitational on March 30th, the Beavers' first outdoor meet of the season, setting a program record in the process.

A season ago, Canwell received USTFCCCA East All-Region recognition with a throw measured at 53.47 meters.

Canwell remains the only male athlete in UMF program history to receive USTFCCCA All-Region honors.
