Day One From NCAA East Regionals

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their weekend at the NCAA East Regional Championships on Friday afternoon with a handful athletes competing in numerous events.

The NCAA East Regional Championship is a meet that brings together all of the top performers in all of Division III from the schools inside the east region. The meet is a qualification based meet where athletes have to meet a certain precedent throughout the regular season to have the ability to compete. 

Nate Trussell (Brewer, Maine) kicked off the day with a 26th place finish in the preliminary round of the 110 meter hurdles. Trussell raced to a time of 16.36 seconds in the event.

Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine), who has had one of the most decorated careers in UMF track and field history, had a disappointing day competing in the hammer throw. Canwell registered a foul in his attempt and did not place in the event.

Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) posted a time of 13.05 seconds in the 100 meter dash preliminary round to finish 22nd overall in the event. 

Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) had an impressive jump measured at 6.28 meters in the long jump to place 19th overall in the event.

Luke Bliss (Underhill, Vermont), competing in his final collegiate event, raced to a time of 33:52.64 in the 10k. Bliss finished 11th overall in the event amongst a loaded field. 

The Beavers will wrap up their weekend in western Massachusetts tomorrow six more events.
