Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Repeat NAC Weekly Honors

WATERVILLE, Maine — For the second week in a row, the University of Maine at Farmington track and field teams earned three North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekly awards. Junior distance runner Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) took home Co-Track Athlete of the Week honors, junior thrower Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) was named Field Athlete of the Week, and first-year multis competitor Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) earned Rookie of the Week.

Andrew LaFlamme competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Springfield College Outdoor Classic, posting a time of 9:49.35, which provisionally qualifies for the New England Track and Field Championships. With this performance, he is projected to rank atop the NAC.

Alex Crews competed in three throwing events at the meet. He finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.76 meters. In the discus, he placed fourth with a distance of 41.33 meters, breaking a program record and provisionally qualifying for New Englands. In the hammer throw, he finished third with a distance of 45.02 meters.

Heather Alexander competed in the 4x100-meter relay, multiple hurdle events, and the javelin. The 4x100-meter relay team placed sixth with a time of 53.34. Individually, Alexander finished 22nd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 21.14 and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.57. In the javelin, she placed second with a throw of 35.58 meters, breaking the program record and provisionally qualifying for regionals.

The track and field teams will return to action on April 10 at the Silfen Elite Distance Meet in New London, Connecticut, and the Monks Invitational in Standish, Maine.
