McLaughlin Named MMBCWA Co-Player of the Week for 2nd Time

FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington sophomore guard Zach McLaughlin (Hampden, Maine) has been named the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) Co-Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday morning. The weekly honor marks the second time McLaughlin has received the award this season.

McLaughlin had a dynamic scoring week for the Beavers, leading them to a 2-1 record that included a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victories, topping two teams picked directly ahead of them in the NAC Preseason Poll: the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Husson University.

In Farmington's lone loss last week on the road against the University of Southern Maine, McLaughlin poured in 28 points while shooting 11-of-22 from the floor, drilling three triples. Of McLaughlin's 28 points, 19 came in the second half, helping whittle Farmington's deficit to just three after it had once reached 17. In the second half, McLaughlin shot an ultra-efficient 7-of-11 from the field, connecting on both of his three-point attempts.

On Friday evening, McLaughlin scored 20 points in 28 minutes while shooting 8-of-17 from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc in the Beavers' 87–49 victory over the Owls.

McLaughlin continued his hot stretch by scoring 27 points and pulling down a career-high nine rebounds, along with two steals and a block, to lead the Beavers to a 91–83 victory over Husson. McLaughlin played all 40 minutes, shooting 10-of-25 from the floor and 3-of-9 from beyond the arc.

For the week, McLaughlin averaged 23.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three-point range.

McLaughlin shares the Player of the Week honor with Thomas Whelan of the University of Southern Maine, who scored a season-high 34 points while shooting 14-of-21 from the floor against Farmington.
