WATERVILLE, Maine  – The University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team fell behind early and were unable to dig themselves all the way out of the hole,  falling 15-11 at the hands of the Suffolk Rams in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon held on the campus of Thomas College.

The Records:

In Tuesday's game, the fourth of the season for the Beavers, they suffered another setback, dropping their record to 0-4. Meanwhile, the Rams played their fifth game and secured their third win, boosting their season record to 3-2.

How it Happened:

Suffolk wasted no time, opening the game with a series of quick goals. Ally Colburn sparked the offense for the Rams, scoring the first goal just 35 seconds into the game. The Beavers had an issue early with cards, allowing the Rams to register four man-up goals over a four minute and 20 second span. Jessie Le scored a pair, while Eliza Bryant, Lauren Woods, Zoe Peckham, and Colburn added second goal, staking the Rams to a 7-0 lead with six minutes still to play in the opening quarter.

The Beavers found their footing momentarily when Abby Trefsger (South Portland, Maine) scored a free-position goal at 5:22. Ruby McMinis (Wells, Maine) added a goal of her own two minutes later to make it a 7-2 game. But the Rams responded with another goal from Colburn. Sadie Harvey (Bethel, Maine) scored in the final minute of the first quarter, pulling the Beavers within five.

Into the second quarter, the game became competitive with Emilie Crocker (Edgecomb, Maine) scoring just a minute and a half in to cut the deficit to four. But Colburn righted the ship for the Rams, scoring her fourth goal of the game. Peckham followed with a goal of her own a minute later to make it 10-4 with 12:17 left in the half. Trefsger and Harvey narrowed the gap for the Beavers, scoring goals just 32 seconds apart to make it a four-goal deficit once again. Consecutive goals from Le and Kaitlyn Boyce put Suffolk back ahead by six with under ten minutes to play in the half.

Lauren Girouard (Concord, Vermont) and Emma Dunn (Farmington, Maine) responded with back-to-back goals of their own, once again pulling the Beavers within four.

A goal from Julia Dickinson in the final ten seconds of the half quickly helped the Rams regain some momentum heading into the third quarter.

After a combined 21 goals in the first half, the second half was much more of a defensive battle as the two teams combined to score five goals.

Peckham scored an early goal, putting the Rams up 14-8 just 51 seconds into the third quarter. The Beavers then showed resilience, scoring three straight goals in an effort to make a comeback. McMinis (Wells, Maine) scored twice while Allison St. Cyr (Jefferson, Maine) added a goal of her own in the early moments of the fourth quarter to pull Farmington within three. But Bryant answered back for the Rams, scoring the dagger with 6:29 left in the game.
