Brackett and Ver Wey Lead Beaver to 4th Place Finish in Slopestyle National Championship

BEND, Oregon - Senior Angel Brackett (Lincoln, Maine) and sophomore Avery Ver Wey each placed well as Brackett earned ninth place and Ver Wey finished in 16th place to help the Beavers to a 4th place in Friday's Slopestyle National Championship at Mt. Bachelor.

The Slopestyle event was originally scheduled to have a qualification and Finals round, but due to weather conditions, the event was shortened to consist of just a qualification round that became the final scorers for the athletes.

Each athlete was given two runs, with their best score out of the two rounds, being the one to determine their placement. Brackett calculated a score in just one of her two runs, earning a 39.67 score from the judges in her first run and sat in sixth place. After not registering a score in her second run, Brackett ended up falling into ninth place.

Ver Wey scored a 3.67 in her first run and sat in 22nd place out of 27 competing athletes. Ver Wey improved in her second run, totaling a score of 14.00 to move into 16th place.

In total, Ver Wey and Brackett earned 50 points to place fourth overall in the event as a team. Westminster University topped the field, earning 25 place points. Viviana Oram of UCLA earned the top-spot as an individual to earn National Champion honors.
