SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts – The University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field team raced to a fourth-place finish, amassing 52 points at Saturday's meet hosted by Springfield College.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute ran away with the meet, totaling 279.5 points en route to a first-place finish.
Top Beaver Performances:
The Beavers had several standout performances, none better than junior Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine), who raced to a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.16 seconds. Trussell's time qualified him for the New England Championships and broke his own program record. He also placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:03.60. Trussell earned three points in the 400-meter hurdles and eight in the 110-meter hurdles for a team-high total of 11 points.
In a highly competitive field, first-year Logan Burns (Islesboro, Maine) finished 14th in the 200 meters, posting a personal-best time of 23.39 seconds—the fourth-fastest in program history. Burns also placed fourth in the long jump, with a best attempt of 6.19 meters.
UMF had a pair of top-four finishers in the 800 meters: Ethan Linscott (Lakeville, Maine) placed third with a time of 2:03.73, earning six points, while Connor Freeman (Bath, Maine) followed in fourth with a time of 2:10.44, earning five points.
Senior Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine) placed sixth overall in the 1,500 meters, clocking in at 4:09.30 and picking up three points for the team.
Samuel Perkins (Jay, Maine) added six points with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 11:00.19.
Senior Ben Vachon (Portland, Maine) scored in both of his events, placing seventh in the high jump and third in the long jump. He cleared 1.85 meters in the high jump for two points and recorded a 6.21-meter jump in the long jump to earn six points.
In the pole vault, Seamus Reeve (Kittery, Maine) cleared 2.75 meters, finishing seventh overall and earning two points for the Beavers.
Sophomore thrower Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine) had a strong day, recording personal bests in both the hammer throw and discus. He also placed 10th in the shot put with a throw of 12.25 meters. In the discus, he finished sixth with a best throw of 38.49 meters, and added another sixth-place finish in the hammer with a mark of 38.13 meters.

The Beavers return to action next Friday at both the Monks Invitational and the Silfen Invitational, with athletes competing at both locations.
